Someone maybe needs to hear this tonight.
Being in a relationship with an LEO is very often not what it's cracked up to be.
We are dealt some crazy situations that most the rest of the world doesn't have to deal with. We have to share our officer with people we don't want to share them with. Often times we get the short end of the stick because it just comes with the lifestyle.
It can suck. It can be lonely. It can be really *really* hard. Seriously.
And normally I'm pretty cool with everything. But tonight as I was loading up the outdoor wood stove I was in a bad mood (because, LIFE stuff) thinking my hands are effin' freezing and I wish just once I didn't have to be the one to do this or take care of that or drag the kids all over or deal with everything...
This thought, it hit me.
I've been at this about 20 years already.
Gals? You know what?
We are warriors. FREAKING WARRIORS.
We can handle shit.
We get things done.
We deal with situations ALONE that other people wouldn't dream of even touching. We fight through it.
We do all the things and then some.
And sometimes I have to remind myself that this isn't "poor me" and "why do I have to", it's LOOK AT ME ROCK THIS.
Sometimes we have to go at it like this: Come at me, law enforcement wife/girlfriend life. I got this. I'm a warrior. I'm a fighter. I'm courageous, deep, and fierce.
And when I feel like I just. can't. do. it...I've got a group of over 2,000 women who are in the SAME. EXACT. BOAT.
2,000 and some WARRIORS.
Gals, we got this.
Editor's note: We use the term wife to also include girlfriends, fiancees, domestic partners and same sex spouses as there currently isn't a term that is inclusive of all these committed relationships with law enforcement officers. Backing the Blue Line (BtBL) strives to include ALL law enforcement (LE) families regardless of marriage, religion, gender, race, political affiliation or sexual orientation and does not discriminate across those lines when it comes to who we support and our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). BtBL has made a commitment to diversity in its membership and all females in a relationship with a MN law enforcement officer are encouraged to apply.
